Dr. Alaa Balbaa

Dean, School of Physical Therapy, Badya University

Biography

With a distinguished career spanning more than two decades, Dr. Alaa Balbaa has demonstrated outstanding leadership, academic excellence, and a sustained commitment to  advancing the field of physical therapy both nationally and internationally.

He currently serves as the Dean of the School of Physical Therapy at Badya University,  following his tenure as Dean at Nahda University, a position he has held since 2019. Dr. Balbaa previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Physical Therapy at Cairo University for seven consecutive years, during which he led transformative institutional achievements.

Under his leadership, the faculty successfully obtained national accreditation in 2014 and international accreditation in 2017, becoming the first—and to date, the only—faculty of physical therapy in Egypt to achieve this distinction.

He was also instrumental in the development and implementation of Egypt’s first Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, marking a significant milestone in postgraduate clinical education.

In addition to his academic leadership, Dr. Balbaa has played a pivotal role in shaping national educational policy. He contributed to the establishment of the Physical Therapy Sector within the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities and currently serves as the Head of its Sector Committee, where he actively participates in strategic planning, curriculum development, and the governance of physical therapy education across Egypt.

Dr. Balbaa earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical therapy from Cairo
University, followed by a PhD in Physical Therapy from Texas Woman’s University, USA.

He holds professional licensure to practice in both Egypt and the United States, reflecting his adherence to international standards of clinical excellence.

Dr. Balbaa’s career reflects a unique integration of academic innovation, clinical expertise, and national leadership. His contributions have significantly advanced the standards of physical therapy, education, and practice, positioning him as a leading figure in the
profession.
