Dr. Salah Hamed Sherif

Prof. Salah Hamed Sherif is a distinguished academic leader and an eminent professor of Oral Pathology with over five decades of experience in dental education, research, and academic administration. He currently serves as Dean of the School of Dentistry, bringing with him a legacy of excellence across Egypt’s leading universities.

Prof. Sherif earned his Bachelor of Dental Medicine and Surgery from Cairo University in 1971, followed by a Master’s degree in Oral Histopathology in 1973 and a PhD in Oral Histopathology in 1980. His doctoral research focused on the histological and histochemical effects of Vitamins A and E on major salivary glands, reflecting his early and sustained interest in scientific research and oral pathology.

His academic career began at the Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University, where he progressed through all academic ranks—from Demonstrator to Professor of Oral Pathology—before being appointed Professor in 1990, a position he continues to hold. Throughout his career, Prof. Sherif has played pivotal leadership roles, including Head of the Oral Pathology Department at Cairo University, Misr International University, and the British University in Egypt.

Prof. Sherif has also held several prominent deanship positions. He served as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Misr International University from 2008 to 2015, followed by his role as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Misr University for Science and Arts (MSA) from 2015 to 2017. His leadership has been instrumental in academic development, curriculum advancement, and faculty growth across these institutions.

A passionate educator, Prof. Sherif has extensive teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervising Diploma, Master’s, and PhD students. He has actively contributed to curriculum development, authored and edited educational materials in Oral Histopathology, and served as an external examiner and scientific referee for postgraduate theses and research papers across numerous universities.

Prof. Sherif is a prolific researcher with a strong international presence. His work has been published in reputable scientific journals and presented at major international conferences, including the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) meetings in the United States and Brazil. His research interests focus on oral histopathology, biocompatibility of dental materials, calcium phosphate-based root canal sealers, and oral tissue responses.

Through his academic leadership, research contributions, and dedication to dental education, Prof. Salah Hamed Sherif continues to shape future generations of dental professionals while advancing the standards of dental education and research in Egypt and beyond.
