Dr. Eng. Salem M. ElKhodary

Dean of the School of Engineering

Biography

Professor Dr. Eng. Salem M. ElKhodary is the Dean of the School of Engineering at Badya University, and the former Dean of the School of Engineering at Nahda University, Beni Sweif Governorate, Egypt, and a full professor at the Electrical Power and Machines Department, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt.

Prof. Elkhodary is a member on the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company – Ministry of Electricity and Energy, and the Head of the Governance Committee at the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company.

Dr. Salem is the CEO of SECO Electromechanical Consultant Office (“SECO”). Prof. Elkhodary earned his Ph.D. in 1995 from the University of Windsor, Canada, majoring in Electrical Power Engineering. He has extensive practical experience in various electrical power projects in different countries all over the world.

Since 1984, Dr. Elkhodary has been in the university academic environment.

Then, Prof. Dr. Elkhodary is a consultant for several projects belonging to international firms, including the European Union Commission (EU), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the World Bank (WB), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Institute of South Africa, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW Development Bank), the German Corporation for International Cooperation GmbH, German Aid (GIZ), and others, as well as Erasmus+, the EU programme for education, training, youth, and sport.
Prof. Dr. Salem was directly nominated by the Prime Minister of Egypt, the Minister of Electricity and Energy, and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research as a government consultant on various national projects.
He is a member of the Permanent Grid Code Committee for the Electrical Transmission Network and the head of the consultant team for updating the Egyptian Distribution Code, both of which belong to the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.

Prof. Dr. Salem Elkhodary is a member of the Technical Committee for Curriculum and Educational Programs for the faculties of technology at the University of King Salman, the University of Al Galala, the International University of Al Mansoura, the International University of El Alamein, and ten other national universities. This committee belongs to the National Projects for Constructing Universities and Educational and Research Institutes, which belong to the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

Prof. Salem Elkhodary also provides consultancy services for several projects in Egypt, Italy, Spain, the USA, France, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the government of Libya, the Kingdom of Jordan, Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.
Professor Salem is nominated to different committees at the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (the Leader’s Committee, the Energy Losses Committee, the Study Faults Committee, and the Head of the Governance Committee).
Prof. Elkhodary is also a consultant for the General Authority for Construction & Housing Cooperatives, which belongs to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

 Now, he is responsible for writing and modifying the Electrical Code for the Ministry of Electricity and the Egyptian Sewage and Water Treatment Plants. He is also affiliated with the International Electrical Code (IEC), the International Cigre Committee, the Egyptian Society of Engineers (ESE), and the Egyptian Engineers Syndicate (EES). He is a Certified Energy Manager from the Association of Energy Engineers (Georgia, USA), and a Certified Electrical Engineer Consultant.
Dr. Salem has undertaken various technical visits around the globe for training, seminars, and conferences, including Cigre France, Alstom Company Transformer Factory and Schneider Electric Factories in Grenoble, France, EASI Company for Energy Conservation in Tennessee, USA, the University of British Columbia and its laboratories, the University of Vancouver, British Columbia, and the University of California, San Diego and its laboratories.

Furthermore, Prof. Salem has authored various publications and participated in research. He has delivered invited talks at different institutions, including the Arab Electricity Regulators Forum at the Council of the Arab League, the Climate Change Conference (Africa Institute of South Africa) in Durban, South Africa, IEEE Power Engineering Society Seminars, the University of Windsor, Canada, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada, and others.

Prof. Elkhodary, as mentioned above, has practical field experience in addition to his academic knowledge, which has enabled him to become one of the leading electrical engineering academics, practitioners, and trainers.
His exposure to the above-mentioned experiences reflects on his professional management skills in universities.
